Beautification of Public Areas

Branson Humane Society Front Entrance

In an effort to make pet adoption more appealing and friendly, the Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club installed and maintains planters at the entrance to the Branson Humane Society.

In fact, the Branson Humane Society is a key partner of the Shepherd of the Hills Garden Club. The shelter has been designated as our “President’s Charity” for the last several years. Members donate at the December meeting, and a check is presented at January’s Annual Meeting. Nearly $500 has been donated over the last four years.

Rose O’Neill’s Museum and Bonniebrook Homestead Gardens

The Historic Rose O’Neill’s Museum and Bonniebrook Homestead, located at 485 Rose O’Neill Drive in Walnut Shade, MO, stands as a testament to the legacy of Rose O’Neill, the inventive mind behind the beloved Kewpie Doll. This enchanting destination continues to captivate the hearts of thousands of visitors each year, drawn not only by its historical significance but also by the serene beauty of its meticulously landscaped gardens.

Bonniebrook Homestead: A Haven of Beauty

The grounds of the Bonniebrook Homestead are a horticultural delight, featuring an array of gardens that bloom with vibrant colors and fragrant blossoms. These gardens are a collaborative effort, tended by dedicated club members who support the project in various capacities. Under the guidance of the Chair of this project, who also serves as a Board Member and Landscaping Manager of the Historical Society, the gardens flourish with contributions from the community.

Community Involvement and Support

The success of the Bonniebrook Homestead gardens is deeply rooted in the commitment and generosity of the SHGC club members. When the call goes out for “workdays”, members eagerly participate, lending their hands and hearts to the maintenance and enhancement of the gardens. Their contributions extend beyond physical labor; members regularly donate bulbs, plants, and seeds. Additionally, any leftover plants from the Annual Sale are graciously donated to Bonniebrook, ensuring that the gardens continue to thrive and evolve. This is a project in partnership with the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks.

Budget and Financial Support

The financial support for the Bonniebrook Homestead project is modest yet impactful. A budget allocation of $100 is dedicated to this endeavor. This funding aids in the procurement of necessary gardening supplies and the continuation of efforts to preserve the historical and aesthetic value of the homestead.

Visitor Experience

Visitors to Bonniebrook Homestead are treated to a multifaceted experience. The gardens provide a tranquil escape, inviting guests to stroll through beautifully manicured landscapes and immerse themselves in nature’s splendor. The Heirloom Daylily Gardens include plants dating back to 1936
